DAILY GUIDANCE FROM PRESIDENT IKEDA
Don’t ever forget that if you think you can breeze through life just because you practice, you’re taking your faith for granted. When that happens, you can’t create any value at all from day to day and you’ll lose your bearings.
Daily Guidance, V.1 (1976)
It is utterly foolish to let one’s faith be disturbed by irresponsible, groundless slander or criticism from society. Be confident that when it comes to matters of Buddhism and faith, we are the ones in a position to teach, and advance while firmly upholding the Gakkai spirit.
Daily Guidance, V.2 (1983)
Please remember that faith is something you should pursue until the last moment of your life, as you advance along the great course of kosen-rufu.
Daily Guidance V.3 (1986)
No matter what painful situation you may be in, you must persevere and overcome every obstacle with faith. Your perseverance is not for anyone else’s sake but your own. In fact, if you persist in your faith, the suffering you experience today, which I would say is minor, will definitely allow you to accumulate tens of thousands of times more fortune and glory in your life.
Daily Guidance, V.4 (1989)
LEARNING NICHIREN BUDDHISM THROUGH THE GOSHO
I have received the various articles that you so kindly sent.
I am entrusting you with a Gohonzon for the protection of your young child. This Gohonzon is the essence of the Lotus Sutra and the eye of all the scriptures. It is like the sun and the moon in the heavens, a great ruler on earth, the heart in a human being, the wish-granting jewel among treasures, and the pillar of a house.
When we have this mandala with us, it is a rule that all the Buddhas and gods will gather round and watch over us, protecting us like a shadow day and night, just as warriors guard their ruler, as parents love their children, as fish rely on water, as trees and grasses crave rain, and as birds depend on trees. You must trust in it with all your heart.
With my deep respect,
